What is the Urdd:  

Urdd Gobaith Cymru is a National Voluntary Youth Organisation with over 55,000 members. They provide opportunities through the medium of Welsh for children and young people in Wales.  

One of these opportunities is the Urdd National Eisteddfod which takes place each year during the May half term. 

As a school, we have a long tradition of entering a wide variety of competitions with the Urdd and several of our pupils have gone on to represent the school at both a regional and national level. We are delighted that we are once again able to take part in the Urdd Eisteddfod competitions this year.  

As a school, we usually enter children from Year 2 up who wish to compete.  

Membership:

Any child wishing to enter a competition must be a member of the Urdd.

HOW MUCH IS THE 2022/2023 MEMBERSHIP?

Membership for one child is £10 for the whole year.  

Family membership (3 or more children) is £25.  

We also offer £1 membership for children who are eligible for free school meal support.  

Included in the price, each member will receive a badge and access to all Urdd activities. Provision varies from area to area but clubs, activities, special tours, and free magazines are all part of the Urdd’s membership offer. Urdd Eisteddfod Competitions:  

When entering competitions children are committing to being able to attend all rounds which usually take place after school or on weekends. The National Final takes place during May Half Term (29th May – 3rd June 2023 )and this year will be held in Llandovery, Carmarthenshire  

Children competing in group stage events (choir/group recitation) will need to have a white shirt, school trousers/skirts, and black shoes if they progress to the regional/national rounds (school ties will be provided by the school)

Registration Deadlines:  

Cog Urdd (cooking): 28th November 2022  

Singing, Recitation, Music competitions:  13th February 2023  

Art and Craft: 3rd May 2023  

Preliminary Rounds:  

Cog Urdd (cooking): Autumn Term 2022 – dates to be confirmed   

Singing, Recitation, Instrumental competitions:  8th March (after school – venue TBC)   

First Round Competitions: (for any child/group that comes first in the preliminary round) 

Cog Urdd (cooking): Autumn Term 2022 – dates to be confirmed   

Singing, Recitation, Instrumental competitions:  Saturday 11th March (morning – venue TBC)   

Art and Craft: 8th May 2022 (work will be taken by staff – no need for children to attend)  

Regional Rounds: (for any child/group that comes first in the previous round) 

Instrumental: 22nd March 2023  

Singing and Recitation: 25th March 2023 (Princess Royal Theatre – Port Talbot)  

Art and Craft: TBC  (work will be taken by staff – no need for children to attend)  

National Round: (for any child/group that comes first in the previous round) 

29th May – 3rd June 2023 (exact dates for each competition TBC) – Llandovery, Carmarthenshire  

Art and Craft National Finals will be judged in May 2023 (Children do not attend this event)
